WAFCON Shocker As Debutant, Malawi, Defeats Nigeria 3-2

Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) debutant, Malawi, created one of the biggest upsets of the tournament by defeating cup holders and serial winners, Super Falcons of Nigeria, 3-2,at the ongoing championship in Morocco.

After a goalless first half, Temwa Chawinga struck in the 73rd minute before Tabitha Chawinga doubled Malawi’s lead six minutes later.
Rasheedat Ajibade converted a penalty in the 90th minute, but Temwa scored again three minutes later to restore Malawi’s two-goal advantage. Uchenna Kanu pulled another goal back deep into stoppage time, but Nigeria’s late fightback fell short.

A major setback for the defending champions in their pursuit of a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.
