‘You skipped security meetings, You Didn’t Purchase APC Nomination Form, Governor Idris Dismisses Senator Maidoki’s Allegations’

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has dismissed claims by the Senator representing Kebbi South, Musa Maidoki, that he was denied the APC senatorial ticket because of his comments on the security challenges affecting the state.

Speaking while receiving coordinators of Senator Maidoki’s political movement from the Zuru and Yauri Emirates at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris said the senator did not even purchase the APC nomination form.

The governor alleged that some individuals in the state are more interested in politics than in the development of Kebbi. He argued that, rather than the senator accusing him, he had reasons to question Senator Maidoki’s commitment to the state’s security efforts.

Governor Idris recalled that Senator Maidoki had accused him on the Senate floor of giving ₦500 million solely to the Nigerian Army as security votes.

“Everybody heard him in the Senate chamber saying I gave ₦500 million to the Nigerian Army as security votes. That money was meant for all the security agencies operating in Kebbi State, and the records are there,” the governor said.

He further alleged that the senator had not made any meaningful contribution to tackling insecurity in Kebbi South.

“The people of Zuru are here, and the local government chairmen from the Zuru Emirate are here. They are living witnesses. We have been holding security meetings attended by former governors and all the senators, but Senator Maidoki has consistently been absent,” he said.

Governor Idris added that he had chaired several security meetings, sometimes until 3 a.m., with critical stakeholders across the state without the senator’s participation.

Reacting to Senator Maidoki’s allegation that the Presidency had not released adequate funds for the implementation of the national budget, Governor Idris described the claim as an attempt to justify what he called the senator’s poor representation.

He questioned how the senator was able to embark on foreign trips if government funds were unavailable and pointed to ongoing federal projects across the country as evidence that budget releases were being made.

The governor also referenced a recent incident in which, according to him, a student from Yauri challenged Senator Maidoki to identify a single ₦50 million project he had executed in the area, a question the senator allegedly failed to answer.

Governor Idris called on the people of Kebbi South to disregard the senator’s allegations, describing them as a campaign of calumny aimed at diverting attention from what he termed his poor representation.
