Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested two suspected cattle rustlers while allegedly conveying a stolen cow in a vehicle in Kiru local government area of Kano State.
The suspects, identified as Jamilu Saadu, 45, and Nura Abdullahi, 37, were arrested at about 3 a.m. on Tuesday at a mining checkpoint on the Tudun Wada–Kiru Road, Rahama Round.
The command’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement yesterday.
According to him, the suspects were intercepted while conveying the cow in a Sharon Galaxy vehicle with registration number JJN 606 AE.
He said the operatives, who were conducting their statutory duties at the checkpoint, searched the vehicle and discovered that the cow had been tied down and concealed in the rear section.
Abdullahi added that two other suspects, believed to be the principal accomplices, escaped after sighting the security operatives and were at large. “Efforts are underway to apprehend them,” he said.
The spokesperson stated that the two arrested suspects were in custody alongside the recovered cow and two machetes, while investigation had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged rustling and identify the owner of the animal.
He assured that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The command urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information to help combat criminal activities across the state.
