Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure that security agencies deployed for the governorship election protect the integrity of the results as collation moves from polling units to wards and local government areas.
Adeleke made the appeal in a Saturday evening post on X, where he raised concern over alleged attempts by politicians to disrupt or take control of collation centres across the state.
The governor specifically asked Tinubu to give clear instructions to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as the electoral process enters its most sensitive phase.
Adeleke raises alarm over collation centres
Adeleke said reports of alleged efforts to interfere with collation were “deeply concerning and unacceptable”, particularly after the Federal Government deployed security personnel for the election.
He called on Tinubu to reaffirm his commitment to ensuring that ballots cast by Osun residents are accurately reflected in the final declaration.
Adeleke said, “It is imperative that you use your good office to issue a clear warning to the heads of security agencies deployed to protect the good people of Osun State and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.”
He also called for adequate institutional support for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to complete the collation and declaration process.
He said, “The Nigeria Police, DSS, Nigerian Army, NSCDC and other security agencies must strictly adhere to this directive, while INEC must be given every necessary support to conclude the process and deliver a credible and transparent outcome.”
Governor asks INEC to uphold standards
Adeleke also asked INEC to maintain high standards during the collation, and that the final outcome should reflect the choice made by voters.
He said, “The people of Osun State have spoken with one voice, and their voices must be heard. Their votes must be protected, and their mandate must be respected.”
His intervention came as results from polling units were being transmitted and collated following the close of voting across the state.
The governor commended voters for their turnout and security personnel for their work during the election. He also expressed confidence in the institutions handling the exercise.
Adeleke said, “The federal government has provided adequate security, and I am confident in the professionalism of all institutions involved.”
He appealed to residents to avoid actions that could threaten public order during the collation.
He added, “To every Osun citizen: I urge you to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to this democratic moment.”
The appeal places renewed attention on the conduct of security personnel and electoral officials as Osun awaits the final outcome of a closely watched governorship contest.
