The Edo State Chapter of the Association for Formidable Educational Development (AFED) has called on its executives and members to embrace intentional leadership standards to strengthen the association and education in the state.
The call was made during its 2026 Leadership Training and Retreat held in Benin City with the theme, “Leading Beyond Titles: Character, Competence and Commitment.”
In his welcome address, the State Controller of AFED, Oladele Ogundele, said the retreat was designed to equip executives with the skills needed to move the association forward through unity of purpose. He also pledged continued investment in leadership development.
“This retreat has been carefully designed to equip every executive with the mindset, skills, and values required to move AFED Edo State to greater heights. It is an opportunity to learn from experienced facilitators, to share ideas, to strengthen relationships, and to develop a common vision for the future of our Association.
Today is more than just another meeting on our calendar. It is a defining moment in the journey of our Association. It is a day set aside to reflect, to learn, to grow, and to recommit ourselves to the noble responsibility of leadership.
Leadership is not about occupying a position; it is about influencing lives, inspiring confidence, solving problems, and leaving an institution stronger than we met it.
That is why we have chosen the theme: “Leading Beyond Titles: Character, Competence & Commitment.”, he said.
Ogundele noted that his administration is committed to building an AFED that is united, visionary, professional, innovative, and responsive to the needs of every member. “We shall continue to invest in leadership development, strengthen our structures, promote members’ welfare, and uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability”.
One of the facilitators, Osagie Alex, urged participants to establish effective systems and structures in their schools, and to be leaders by example.
Speaking on behalf of participants, Pastor Stella Aigbe thanked AFED for organising what she described as insightful training, saying that she gained valuable leadership lessons which she would implement in the management of her school.
The retreat also featured networking and a panel discussion where participants examined challenges facing the association and discussed practical solutions to enhance the growth and effectiveness of AFED in Edo State.
