“Derek Chauvin was unjustly convicted of murder, he should be freed” – Elon Musk speaks on George Floyd’s death

  • Elon Musk has called for Derek Chauvin’s release, maintaining that the former police officer was wrongly convicted of murder and did not cause George Floyd’s death intentionally.
  • The comments have divided social media users, with some supporting Musk’s position while others questioned his claims and pointed to Chauvin’s conviction and the circumstances surrounding Floyd’s death.

Elon Musk has sparked fresh reactions online after calling for the release of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted over the 2020 death of George Floyd.

Musk argued that Chauvin was “unjustly convicted of murder” and claimed that the former officer was not responsible for Floyd’s death and did not intend to cause a death.

“Derek Chauvin was unjustly convicted of murder, therefore he should be freed. The facts show that he was not the cause of death, nor did he at any time intend for a death to occur. Whatever else he may be, he is not a murderer. That is the truth,” Musk wrote.

Chauvin was convicted in Minnesota in 2021 after a jury found him guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s death. He was sentenced to more than 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to violating Floyd’s civil rights.

Musk’s statement has since triggered a heated debate, with some social media users agreeing with him while others questioned his interpretation of the case.
