Bakare addressed the controversy in an emotional Instagram video shared on Sunday, August 23, 2026, explaining that she had been away from her phone for several hours after attending a movie premiere.
According to the actress, she only became aware that she was being tagged in connection with the viral clip after returning and checking her phone.
“It’s a dark Sunday for all of us. I just go back for a movie premiere. I haven’t seen any tags but people said that a particular video of me that has been tagged up and down,” she said.
Bakare acknowledged the sadness surrounding Ogogo’s passing, describing the day as one of grief rather than celebration. She appealed to the public to avoid making conclusions about the video without first understanding the circumstances surrounding it.
“Today is not a good day, it’s a sad day. My phone was not with me for so long. I just got back. The blow itself is too high. I don’t like to do videos but please don’t tag me to something terrible,” she said.
The actress further described the late veteran as a “rare gem” and urged social media users to be mindful of their comments while mourning his death.
“We just lost a rare gem. Mind what you say, don’t judge what you don’t know, don’t assume what you don’t know, please, it’s a dark Sunday,” Bakare added.
