AAC alleges police withheld evidence in Sowore attack, demands arrests

The African Action Congress (AAC) has accused the Ekiti State Police Command of withholding evidence from an attack on its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and his team. The party says some stolen phones have been traced, but the police and Department of State Services (DSS) have yet to arrest anyone.
The AAC in a press statement issued on Saturday questioned the police handling of the incident. It accused Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye Michael of downplaying the victims’ injuries by calling them “minor.”
The party also questioned why security operatives seized the restaurant’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. The recording reportedly captured the attack on Sowore and members of his team.
The AAC alleged that the incident was a coordinated attempt to kill Sowore. It called for an independent investigation into the conduct of the police, DSS and Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji.
Traced phones, but no arrests
The party said the attackers stole mobile phones, wristwatches and shoes from members of Sowore’s team during the incident.
It claimed that some of the stolen phones had been traced to their current locations. However, neither the police nor the DSS had arrested anyone over the theft and attack.
The AAC questioned the seizure of the restaurant’s CCTV recording, which it said contained footage of the incident. It demanded that the recording be preserved and released for public scrutiny.

The party also called for the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attack and the recovery of the stolen belongings.
It said the authorities must take concrete steps to protect Sowore. The party maintained that the police response had failed to address the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The AAC’s demands include an independent investigation into the possible involvement of Governor Oyebanji, the police and the DSS.
Party connects Ekiti incident to Rivers operation
The party also cited a separate DSS operation in Rivers State, where it alleged that a tracking device was planted on Sowore’s vehicle.
It linked the Rivers incident to the attack in Ekiti, raising allegations about the conduct of security agencies. The AAC accused the agencies of serving the interests of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party said the two incidents raised questions about the use of security institutions against political opposition.
It accused the Ekiti governor, CP Falade and the Inspector-General of Police of bearing responsibility for the handling of the matter.
The AAC warned that it would organise mass action at the Ekiti State Government House if the authorities failed to take decisive action.
National Publicity Secretary Rex I. Elanu signed the statement on behalf of the party.
WHAT READERS SHOULD KNOW
The AAC’s position is that the Ekiti attack was a coordinated assassination attempt against Sowore. The allegation remains the party’s claim.
The party has made four immediate demands: arrest of the attackers, preservation and release of the CCTV footage, recovery of stolen property and measures to protect Sowore.
Its threat to mobilise protesters at the Ekiti State Government House is conditional on the authorities failing to act.
