“I Told God To Let Her Go”- Pastor Jerry Eze Opens Up On Marriage Struggles

- Pastor Jerry Eze shared his struggles during the early years of his marriage.
- He faced significant challenges that led him to leave his home temporarily.
- Seeking God’s guidance played a crucial role in changing his perspective on marriage.
Nigerian pastor Jerry Eze has recounted the challenging early years of his marriage, revealing that the relationship became so difficult at one point that he packed his belongings and left their home.
The cleric shared the experience while explaining how seeking God’s guidance helped him develop a different understanding of marriage and his responsibilities within it.
According to Pastor Jerry Eze, one of the incidents occurred in their kitchen after he asked his wife a seemingly simple question. He said she became upset, moved the cups and plates she was arranging, and they fell to the floor. He added that the look she gave him at the time left him frightened.
The pastor explained that such an expression of anger was unfamiliar to him because of the environment in which he was raised.
Recalling how he reacted, he said, “I just moved away, went to the room, packed my things, and then I ran away from the house.”
He also revealed that there was a point when he considered ending the marriage, believing that both he and his wife could move on with their separate lives.
“I told God, ‘Let her go my way, let me go my way. She’s successful, I am successful, everybody will be fine,’” he recalled.
However, Pastor Jerry Eze said his perspective changed after what he described as a message from God concerning the purpose of marriage.
According to him, he received the revelation: “This marriage is not a destination, it is an assignment. And to the extent to which you will solve this assignment will determine your promotion in destiny.”
The pastor said the message made him reconsider his approach to marriage. Rather than focusing mainly on what he expected to gain from the relationship, he began paying more attention to what he could contribute to it.
He said he learned to demonstrate love, communicate more carefully and avoid responding angrily whenever his wife became upset.
Although he admitted that the process of working through their challenges was not easy, Pastor Jerry Eze said the experience eventually helped transform their relationship.
Describing his wife today, he said she is now “one of the sweetest persons you would ever meet.”
His revelation has sparked conversations about the challenges couples may encounter during the early stages of marriage and the role of patience, communication, personal growth and a willingness to change in navigating difficult seasons.
