Nigerian content creator and social media personality Peller has sparked reactions online after speaking about what he described as double standards in the way people address prominent personalities.
In a recent statement, Peller imagined what the reaction would have been if he had casually referred to billionaire businessman Tony Elumelu simply as “Tony.”
According to him, such a move would have attracted heavy criticism from social media users, with some people allegedly using it as an opportunity to question his level of education.
“If I was the one who called Tony Elumelu ‘Tony’ yesterday, the whole internet would have shut down. If it was someone like me, they will say ‘that’s why we say education is important,” Peller said.
His comment appeared to focus on the different standards he believes are applied to people depending on their social status, background or public image.
