JUST- IN:Suspected Armed Herdsmen Kill 3, Injure Several In Fresh Benue Attack

Suspected armed herdsmen have invaded Abaushwa community in Ndzorov Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area of Benue state on Monday night, killing at least three and injuring many residents.
A security source said the attackers stormed Abaushwa village located near Gbajimba, the headquarters of Guma Local Government Area of Benue at about 11:30pm, shooting anyone at sight.
It gathered that a father, his son and daughter were killed during the attack.
Confirming the attack, Chairman Guma Local Government Council, Hon. Maurice Orwough, has strongly condemned the attack on Abaushwa community in Ndzorov Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area by suspected herdsmen, which occurred on Monday night.
In a statement issued by the chairman’s Personal Assistant on Communication and Strategy, Ernest Tortiv, on Tuesday, said, “The unfortunate attack claimed the lives of innocent people, left many others injured, and caused fear and destruction in the community. Hon. Orwough described the incident as heartbreaking and unacceptable.”
He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of those who were injured in the attack.
The chairman assured residents that security forces have already been deployed to Abaushwa to restore peace, protect lives and property, and prevent further attacks.
The statement urged the people to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and continue to provide useful information that will help in the fight against insecurity.
When contacted, Benue State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, promised to get back to our correspondent over the incident but was yet at the time of filing this report.
The latest attack has heightened concerns over insecurity in Guma Local Government Area, which has witnessed repeated attacks by the suspected armed herders for years now.
