IBADAN – The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Ogun State Joint Campus Committee, JCC, and the National Association of Ogun State Students, NAOSS, has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for what it described as remarkable achievements in education, infrastructure, agriculture, security, and industrial development since 2019.
The commendation was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of NANS JCC Ogun, Comrade Habeeblahi Adekunle Tijani, and the National President of NAOSS, Comrade Olubodun Olalekan.
The student leaders said while no government is without challenges, it was important to acknowledge genuine progress recorded by the present administration across various sectors.
The groups noted that the government’s interventions in the renovation and construction of educational facilities, provision of learning materials, recruitment of teachers, and improvement of the learning environment had strengthened public education in the state.
They also acknowledged the administration’s attention to tertiary education and student welfare, saying government policies had positively impacted students and institutions across the state.
“For us, investment in education is not merely an investment in buildings and facilities; it is an investment in the future of Ogun State,” the statement said.
NANS JCC and NAOSS also commended the administration’s sustained attention to road infrastructure, noting that the construction and rehabilitation of roads had improved connectivity between communities, commercial centres and industrial clusters.
On agriculture, they recognised efforts to encourage production, support farmers, promote food security and strengthen the agricultural value chain. They urged the government to make farming more attractive to young people.
The student leaders further lauded the administration’s interventions in housing, saying the delivery of housing schemes had helped address the need for decent and affordable accommodation, particularly for young people and low-income earners.
The groups noted that Ogun State had continued to strengthen its position as one of Nigeria’s leading industrial hubs, with increasing presence and expansion of industries reflecting investor confidence.
They also acknowledged the administration’s efforts in strengthening the security architecture of the state.
The student leaders specifically commended Governor Abiodun for the prompt intervention that led to the safe rescue of seven students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, who were recently abducted.
“The safe return of the students was a moment of relief for their families, colleagues and the entire student community. We appreciate the efforts of the security agencies,” they said.
They called for sustained support for security agencies and further strengthening of security around campuses and major routes used by students.
While commending the governor, the student bodies urged the administration to do more in areas of student welfare, campus security, agricultural support, road infrastructure, affordable housing, and youth empowerment.
They also called for greater engagement with students and youth organisations in policy formulation and implementation.
“NANS Ogun JCC and NAOSS reaffirm our commitment to constructive engagement, peaceful advocacy and partnership with the government in advancing the interests of students and the overall development of Ogun State,” the statement concluded.
