Former Nickelodeon star Christy Knowings has died at the age of 46 following an asthma attack that reportedly resulted in severe brain damage.
Knowings, best known for her time on the popular children’s sketch comedy series All That, died in Los Angeles on Tuesday after spending several days in hospital.
According to reports, the actress and comedian suffered the asthma attack on Friday and was later placed on life support after doctors determined that she had sustained brain damage. Her family subsequently made the decision to take her off life support on Tuesday night.
Her aunt, Tyleah Joseph, announced Knowings’ death on Facebook the following day.
The performer’s manager, Al Hill, paid tribute to her versatility and dedication to entertainment.
“Christy was a multi-talented lady,” he told Variety. “Whether it was singing, acting, or dancing, she was always creating. Always professional and dedicated to her work.”
Knowings joined All That in 1997 and became a familiar face to Nickelodeon viewers, remaining on the main cast for three seasons until 2001. She appeared alongside stars including Amanda Bynes, Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell and Lori Beth Denberg.
Before joining the series, Knowings had been discovered through And Now This, a sketch comedy pilot produced by Rosie O’Donnell.
Her work on All That helped establish her as part of a generation of young performers who became closely associated with Nickelodeon’s golden era of children’s television.
