ABUJA – Nigeria and Mali have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and deepening cooperation on regional security, diplomacy, and other areas of mutual interest following the presentation of Letters of Credence by Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to Mali, Ambassador Geoffrey Ijomah David Chima.
The Nigerian envoy formally presented copies of his Letters of Credence to Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Abdoulaye Diop, during a ceremony held in Bamako, a statement said on Friday.
The diplomatic protocol was followed by high-level bilateral talks focused on expanding cooperation between the two countries and advancing shared interests across key sectors.
During the discussions, both sides stressed the importance of strengthening diplomatic consultation mechanisms to promote more effective engagement and deepen South-South cooperation.
They agreed that sustained dialogue and closer collaboration would further enhance the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Mali.
The meeting also reviewed the evolving geopolitical situation in West Africa, with particular attention given to the growing security challenges confronting the region.
The two officials underscored the need for stronger collaboration in the fight against terrorism, describing regional solidarity and coordinated action as essential to addressing transnational security threats.
They further highlighted the importance of constructive political dialogue, mutual trust, and closer cooperation among African states to effectively tackle common challenges and promote peace, stability, and sustainable development across the sub-region.
Ambassador Chima’s presentation of his Letters of Credence marks another step in Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with Mali and reflects Abuja’s continued commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting regional cooperation through dialogue and diplomacy.
