Sakawa Boy Shares Video Of Himself Performing Rituals To River Goddess Before Embarking On His Sakawa Journey

A young man has gone viral after sharing a “before and after” video that begins with him performing what appears to be a ritual offering at a riverbank.

The tail end of the video captures him standing at the site of a house he’s now building, a contrast that has fuelled speculation online about the source of his sudden fortune.

In the “before” clip, he’s seen shirtless near a river holding a bowl of food, slippers, and a bottle of drink, appearing to make an offering, a practice associated with seeking blessings or spiritual favour from a river deity in some traditional belief systems.

The “after” segment shows him at a construction site, seemingly further along financially than before.

The pairing has prompted online commenters to speculate that he may be involved in internet fraud, commonly referred to in Ghana as “sakawa,” with some rituals popularly associated with such activity in public perception.

However, nothing in the video itself confirms the source of his income, and traditional river offerings are also practiced broadly across many communities for reasons entirely unrelated to fraud, including general blessings, protection, or gratitude.

His identity and the specific claims behind the video remain unverified.
