Tinubu’s Industrialisation Agenda Delivering Jobs, Innovation, Says Information Minister

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Tuesday said the industrialisation drive under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is beginning to yield tangible results through new projects, job creation, innovation and expanded economic opportunities across Nigeria.
Speaking during the Presidential Media Team Tour of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) headquarters in Abuja, Idris said the administration’s economic reforms are being translated into practical interventions aimed at boosting local production, technology development and industrial growth.
He explained that the National Renewed Hope Media Tour was initiated to enable Nigerians witness firsthand the projects and programmes being implemented by the Federal Government while strengthening transparency and accountability.
“We want Nigerians to see for themselves how government policies are being translated into tangible projects, jobs, innovation and opportunities
. Transparency is strengthened when government institutions actively engage the public, while accountability is enhanced when citizens can independently verify progress,” the minister said.
Idris described NASENI as one of the key institutions driving Nigeria’s industrial transformation through science, engineering and technology, noting that the agency’s interventions cut across local manufacturing, renewable energy, agricultural mechanisation, digital technology and skills development.
According to him, President Tinubu’s vision is to transform Nigeria from a largely consuming economy into one driven by production, innovation and exports through increased local value addition and industrial competitiveness.
“Our vision is clear: to move Nigeria from being primarily a consumer nation to becoming a nation of producers, innovators and exporters,” he stated.
The minister said the Renewed Hope Agenda places industrialisation, technology and youth empowerment at the centre of the country’s economic transformation by creating an enabling environment for investment, enterprise development and sustainable employment.
He also commended the management and staff of NASENI for advancing indigenous engineering and technology solutions that are enhancing Nigeria’s productive capacity and reducing dependence on imported products.
Idris further praised members of the Presidential Media Team for supporting the Federal Government’s commitment to openness through factual, balanced and firsthand reporting of government programmes and projects before formally declaring the media tour open.
Earlier, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the agency is pursuing a practical industrialisation strategy centred on local manufacturing, technology transfer, healthcare innovation and the commercialisation of research outputs.
Halilu disclosed that NASENI’s interventions now span eight critical industrial sectors, with projects located across the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, the agency is gradually increasing local content in manufacturing while establishing industries capable of competing globally.
“Our goal is to build sustainable industries by designing products for the Nigerian market, assembling them locally, gradually increasing local content and creating factories that can compete globally. That is how we have been able to establish more than 20 factories within a short period,” he said.
The event was attended by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Chief Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Communication and Citizen Engagement, and other senior government officials.
