Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has responded to remarks made by musician David Adeleke regarding the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, directing the singer to prepare his uncle for post-electoral life instead of issuing political appeals.
Adeleke had urged an unidentified politician from Imo State to permit free and fair elections in Osun, citing rumoured interference plans in the August 15 poll.
Although the musician avoided naming Uzodimma, his remarks were construed as directed at the Imo governor.
Uzodimma responded through a statement, asserting that Adeleke should address appeals to Osun voters rather than to him.
The governor predicted defeat for incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, claiming the electorate had lost confidence in the administration.
He characterised widespread voter sentiment as favouring change and noted that many within Osun had determined to remove the current government.
Uzodimma further advised Adeleke to assist his uncle in adjusting to life after political office rather than engaging in emotional advocacy.
He contended that Osun voters appeared inclined to support the opposition candidate and suggested sarcastically that Adeleke might consider signing his uncle as a dancer in his music ensemble given the likely electoral outcome.
The exchange precedes the August 15 governorship election in Osun, wherein Governor Adeleke seeks a second term.
