“You no dey read the room?” – Funke Akindele dragged over birthday post amid Taiwo Hassan’s burial

• Funke Akindele has been criticised online after sharing birthday photos and a prayer on the day veteran actor Taiwo Hassan was buried.
• Some social media users accused the actress of failing to “read the room” and argued that she should have toned down her birthday celebration out of respect for her late colleague

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has faced backlash after sharing photos to mark her 49th birthday on the same day the industry gathered to bury veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

The actress shared glamorous photos online alongside a prayer of gratitude to God, thanking Him for His faithfulness through different seasons of her life.

“Through every season, lesson, win, mistake, and challenge, God has remained my strength and shield.”

However, her birthday post did not sit well with some social media users, who felt she should have shown more restraint while the Yoruba movie industry was mourning the death of Taiwo Hassan.

Kanel tweeted: “If I were you, Aunty Funke, I woulda forgo the celebration of my birth for the year. Today should be all about the passing of Ogogo. But we are not the same person. Happy birthday to you, and I wish you long life in good health. I wish for you to continue to prosper.”
