2027: I’ll put solar panels on every Nigerian’s roof within 11 months of my presidency – SDP’s Adebayo

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, has promised to put solar panels on every Nigerian’s roof within 11 months of his presidency if elected in the forthcoming 2027 polls.
Adebayo made the pledge on Tuesday while fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’.
He criticised past rural electrification strategies that focused on expensive 33 kVA lines instead of decentralised solar solutions.
The presidential candidate advised the Nigerian government to adopt rooftop solar panel manufacturing locally and train communities instead of depending on expensive grid electrification.
“Between 11 and 15 kW of solar power will be put on every roof within 11 months of my presidency.
“In 2001, the Obasanjo administration invited me, and I advised them to enter into an agreement with China or India, set up a factory to make solar panels, and train people to install them.
“Every Local Government Area has money that they steal every month to capitalise on this,” he said.
