AWLO UK Launches In London With Mayoral Reception, Leadership Lecture And Gala Dinner
The African Women in Leadership Organisation, AWLO, UK Chapter, officially launched over the weekend with a 2-day inaugural programme in London that brought together policymakers, business leaders, and women changemakers from across Africa and the diaspora.

The programme opened with a Town Hall engagement hosted by Her Worshipful the Mayor of Islington, Councillor Rosaline Ogunro, at the Chambers of Islington Town Hall.
The session set the tone for the launch, highlighting the role of women in governance, community service, and cross-cultural leadership.
—Inaugural Lecture and Gala Dinner: “Leading for Lasting Impact”—
The highlight followed at the InterContinental Hotel Ballroom with an Inaugural Lecture and Gala Dinner themed “Leading for Lasting Impact.”
A fireside chat on “Character, Competence and Consistency” anchored the evening.
The discussion was moderated by Professor Uduak Archibong, MBE, and featured:
– Udeme Etukeyen, Leadership and Transformation Expert
– Dr. Dianne Regisford, Outgoing Councillor, Oxfordshire County Council
– Grace Ofure, Renowned Wealth Strategist
Panellists spoke on building credibility, leading with integrity, and creating systems that outlive individual tenure.

The event drew notable dignitaries, including:
– Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, Former First Lady of Kebbi State and Founder, Medicaid Cancer Foundation — honoured as “Phenomenal Woman of the Year”
– H.E. Fatima Dikko Radda, First Lady of Katsina State and prominent advocate for women and children’s welfare
Their presence, organisers said, reflected the growing global recognition of African women’s leadership.

The launch was hosted by Dr. Elisha Attai, Founder and Global President of AWLO.
Salewa Amaechi was formally decorated as Vice President of AWLO UK.
The Gala Dinner was hosted by Dee Burrows, International Journalist, Educator and Entrepreneur.
The entire AWLO UK Executive team received a standing ovation for delivering what guests described as a “world-class” inaugural programme.
With the UK Chapter now inaugurated, AWLO says it will focus on mentorship, policy advocacy, and leadership development for African women in the UK and across Europe.
