Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has been honoured with the Outstanding Governor Award for the North-West by the Daily Times Nigeria as part of activities marking the newspaper’s centenary anniversary.
Lawal received the award on Thursday at the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards, held in Abuja to commemorate 100 years of Daily Times’ contribution to Nigeria’s media and national development.
The governor was recognised for his leadership, commitment to public service and contributions to the development of Zamfara State and Nigeria at large.
Chairman of the Times Heroes Awards Council, Bolaji Okusaga, said Lawal emerged as the recipient after an extensive nomination and public voting exercise in which he recorded the highest number of votes in the North-West category.
Okusaga said the council and other stakeholders subsequently endorsed the governor’s selection based on his leadership qualities, public service record and contribution to national development.
He said, “Following an extensive nomination and public voting process, you received the highest number of votes in this award category.
“The Times Heroes Award Council and other key stakeholders subsequently confirmed your selection in recognition of your leadership, public service, and contribution to national development.”
Receiving the honour, Governor Lawal expressed appreciation to the Board, Management and Organising Committee of the Daily Times Nigeria @100 Celebration, the Times Heroes Award Council and Nigerians who supported his nomination.
He described the recognition as an affirmation of his administration’s commitment to good governance, accountability and effective public service in Zamfara State.
The award ceremony formed part of activities marking the 100th anniversary of Daily Times, Nigeria’s oldest newspaper, which was first published in 1926 and has documented major political, economic, social and cultural developments in the country over the past century.
Other prominent Nigerians honoured at the ceremony included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and former President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina.
Daily Times also announced that recipients of the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards would be featured among outstanding individuals and institutions in the 700-page Nigerian Grand Book, a commemorative publication documenting personalities, institutions and achievements that have shaped Nigeria’s development.
The newspaper said the publication would serve as a lasting national record of the country’s journey and its notable contributors.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wrote the foreword to the Nigerian Grand Book.
