Polycarp Ogbonna Nwite Jnr, son of the late Senator Polycarp Ogbonna Nwite, former Nigerian Ambassador to Botswana and Presidential Aide to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, has vowed to unseat the incumbent Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District of Ebonyi state, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi in the coming 2027 general election.
The Accord Party candidate said in a statement on Friday that his decision to seek the senate seat was born out of “a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to the development of our people,” and, deep sense of responsibility to honour and sustain the legacy of his late father.
He stated that he would imbibe the political philosophy of servant leadership that prioritises the welfare of ordinary people at the grassroots as his late father did.
“My father’s life was defined by dedication to public service, integrity, and the bridges he built across communities in service to the people of Ebonyi,” Nwite stated.
He continued “It is in that same spirit that I have returned to Nigeria to offer myself for service.
“My aspiration is not to merely inherit my father’s name, but to earn my own place through meaningful service, while upholding the values and principles he stood for”, Nwite Jnr asserted further.
He described his late father, Senator Polycarp Ogbonna Nwite, as a “pro-democracy advocate and political ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu” who “was widely respected for his commitment to grassroots development and for fostering unity across Ebonyi North”.
Nwite Jnr said that he deliberately returned from Overseas to seek the senate seat with a clear vision to champion the welfare of the ordinary people at the grassroots.
“As I begin this new chapter, I recognise that this responsibility is far greater than seeking political office,” he said.
“It is about serving our people. I, therefore, humbly seek the guidance, counsel, goodwill, and support of our elders, stakeholders, and the good people of Ebonyi North as we work together to build on the foundation that has been laid.”
The Accord Party candidate disclosed that he is currently engaging with stakeholders across the five Local Government Areas of Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
He said that if elected into the senate his focus areas would include improved infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, healthcare delivery, and expanded economic opportunities.
He also said that he has been consulting his late father’s allies in Ebonyi State and across the country.
“My understanding of leadership is not about ostentation while our people continue to grapple with poverty. Leadership, by democratic ethos, must be about the people. We will redefine representation in Ebonyi North — make it people-centered, empathetic, and guided by emotional intelligence in both action and utterance,” Nwite added.
