A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Dr. Boss Mustapha, has donated a library complex to the Lutheran University Nigeria (LUN), Demsa in Adamawa State, as part of his commitment to invest in the education of younger generation.
Dr. Mustapha, who formally handed over the facility at a ceremony in Demsa, said the project was designed to improve access to knowledge and create a lasting legacy for generations of Nigerian students.
The facility, named the Wesley Mustapha Library Complex, was commissioned in honour of his late father, Wesley Mustapha, a teacher who rose to become a headmaster at the Government Science School, established by the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN).
The Archbishop of LCCN, Most Revd. Musa Panti Filibus, who named the facility, commended the former SGF for turning a personal milestone into an opportunity to strengthen education in the region.
The Archbishop, who expressed appreciation to Mustapha, described the library as an enduring contribution to tertiary education and knowledge development in the region.
He said the decision to immortalise Mustapha’s late father through the facility was particularly significant, given his contribution to education as a teacher and school administrator.
The celebrant, Dr. Mustapha explained that his decision was driven by the desire to improve the lives of young Nigerians and contribute to the development of future generations.
“My decision to undertake this project is borne out of the need to better the lives of the generation coming after us,” he said.
The former SGF also urged Nigerian youths not to allow their backgrounds to limit their ambitions, saying his own journey from the family of a classroom teacher to the highest levels of public service demonstrated that humble beginnings could be overcome through determination.
“I want my life to be a template for the younger generation. If the son of a classroom teacher can make it, then you can make it.
“Do not allow your background to define your life. Use it as a stepping stone,” he said.
Chairman of the occasion and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, commended Mustapha for choosing to invest in education, rather than personal luxury as part of activities marking his 70th birthday.
Mutfwang described the gesture as a demonstration of responsible leadership and urged other Nigerians with the means to emulate the former SGF by investing in projects with enduring benefits to society.
Also speaking, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri described the library as a “monument of knowledge” that would serve students, researchers and scholars in the state and beyond.
Fintiri said the facility would contribute to strengthening academic development and provide a valuable resource for generations of students.
NERD Crosses 400,000 Academic Submissions In Major Milestone In Digitisation Drive
Nigeria’s push to build a national digital infrastructure for education records and quality assurance in higher institutions has recorded a major milestone, with the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) surpassing 400,000 digitised theses and dissertations.
Officials and education stakeholders see the achievement as an important step towards preserving the country’s intellectual output and making Nigerian research more accessible, while simultaneously building a national database for the instant validation of academic credentials.
Data from the repository showed that by early September 2026, the platform had accumulated over 400,000 visible academic submissions from universities, polytechnics, monotechnics, colleges of education, and other post-secondary institutions across the country.
That figure had exceeded 410,000 as of press time.
