Mrs. Tinubu Announces N500m Relief for Calabar Mall Fire Victims

First lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu Thursday launched the South-South Zonal phase of the National Community Foodbank Programme in Cross River State, while also announcing a N500 million presidential relief package for victims of the recent Calabar (SPAR) shopping Mall fire.

Speaking at the event in Calabar, Mrs. Tinubu said the foodbank initiative was a deliberate and sustainable response to food insecurity and malnutrition among vulnerable households across Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers states.

She commissioned the foodbank at Edeba Primary Health Centre in Cross River, with two others at MCH Ikom in the Central and MCH Ogoja in the North launched simultaneously.

The program targets children under six, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

“This initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of my husband ,President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly its commitment to improving food security, strengthening health care outcomes and promoting the well-being of all Nigerians,” She said.

The foodbank programme, first inaugurated in Abuja on April 2, 2026, has already been rolled out in the North East, North West, North Central and South West.
