Suspected Bandits Kill Kano APC Ward Chairman, 1 Other

Suspected bandits have killed the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman of Rantan Ward in Bebeji local government area of Kano State, Alhaji Garba Buba, and another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when the gunmen reportedly invaded Rantan community and opened fire on the residents.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Buba was shot during the attack and later died while receiving treatment at a hospital.

“Last night, Sunday, suspected kidnappers attacked our town, Rantan. During the attack, they shot Alhaji Garba Buba, the APC chairman of Rantan Ward, who later died in hospital from the injuries sustained,” the source said.

The resident added that another man, identified as Alhaji Sa’adu, was also shot, while Zunduma was killed during the attack.

Confirming Buba’s death, a family member, Hafsat Garba Rantan, identified the deceased as her paternal uncle.

The latest attack came barely a day after suspected bandits invaded Garun Mallam Town in Garun Mallam local government area, where three residents were shot and injured and a farmers’ leader, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, was kidnapped and later released after the police foiled the abduction.

Speaking on the recent attacks, the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, said the command had summoned area commanders as part of efforts to review and strengthen its security strategy.

Bakori said the command was fine-tuning measures to tackle the activities of criminals coming into the state from neighbouring states.

He said the police would strengthen operations in affected areas and adopt new strategies to prevent further attacks and criminal activities.
