Teachers Are Scamming Us With School Textbooks, English Textbook Costs GH₵80 In School But GH₵70 Outside — Parents Raise Concerns

Some parents have expressed frustration over the rising cost of textbooks and learning materials for their children as schools prepare for the new academic year.

According to the concerned parents, some textbooks are being sold at higher prices in schools compared to prices available outside the school environment.

One parent claimed that an English textbook being sold in school for GH₵80 could be purchased elsewhere for GH₵70, raising concerns about possible price differences and transparency in the supply of learning materials.

The parent further alleged that when some parents request the textbook lists to enable them to purchase the books themselves, they are told it is not allowed.

“Teachers are scamming us with school textbooks. An English textbook costs GH₵80 in school but GH₵70 outside. When we ask for the list to buy them ourselves, they say it’s not allowed. Government should do something,” the parent said.

The concerns have sparked discussions among parents, with many calling for clearer guidelines on how schools handle the sale and distribution of textbooks.

As the academic year begins, some parents are appealing to education authorities to investigate complaints and ensure that learning materials are made available at fair and reasonable prices.

However, it remains unclear whether the allegations apply to specific schools or are a widespread concern across the country.
