Teachers at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka have gone on strike because they weren’t paid their full August salary.
The lecturers announced the indefinite walkout on Monday, saying they’ve now had this problem three times.
They’re withdrawing all academic and administrative services until they get paid in full.
The union said they’re following a national rule that allows branches to strike when salaries aren’t paid by the third day of the following month.
Since it’s now September 7 and the teachers still haven’t received complete August pay, they decided to stop work.
The union is calling on the university authorities and President Bola Tinubu to fix the situation immediately and make sure it doesn’t happen again.
They want the full August salary paid to all members right away.
When asked about the strike, the university’s information director simply said he had nothing to say about it.
