Social media personality and businesswoman, Ifedayo Agoro, has reacted to the controversy surrounding comedian Real Warri Pikin and her husband, Timaya.
Agoro questioned why the husbands of successful women often become the target whenever people disagree with something their wives say or do.
“Why is it that whenever a successful woman says something to the internet and they don’t approve of it, they start looking at the husband?”
Speaking in a video shared online, Agoro criticised the habit of describing husbands as “weak” or “simps” simply because they support their wives.
She noted that some people even go as far as sending private messages to the husbands of women they disagree with.
According to her, it is unclear what critics expect a husband to do when his wife faces backlash online, questioning whether they want him to leave her, publicly embarrass her or force her to stop posting online.
Agoro also pointed out that outsiders cannot know the true state of another couple’s marriage, stressing that people should not make assumptions about relationships they are not part of.
She further suggested that some people struggle with the idea of a man being married to a successful or powerful woman because they associate masculinity with being able to control their partners.
Agoro concluded by reminding social media users that their opinions do not determine the success or failure of another couple’s marriage.
