Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo has revealed that some singles remain unmarried because they continue to reject potential partners over what he described as minor preferences.

Speaking during a service on marriage, the cleric said one of his biggest regrets in 30 years of ministry was not doing more to help singles get married earlier.

“One of my greatest regrets in these thirty years is not helping single people get married since. Before, I was just leaving it to preaching and praying,” he said.

According to Okonkwo, several women in churches have spent years praying and serving in different capacities while still struggling to find husbands.

“Today some are all almost 50, and they have not married. Most of the churches I preach at, the pastors call me and say, ‘Help our sisters. We have faithful sisters, prayer band, choir, serving the Lord, but no husband.’”

He said this prompted him to establish a platform to help singles find partners, but they discovered that some people were unwilling to compromise on certain preferences.

“We found out that a lot of people that want to be married are not ready to be married.”

He recalled an example involving a 42-year-old woman who rejected a man they considered suitable because of his appearance.

“You will see a 42-year-old woman we found good men will say ‘But I have been begging and praying.’ Then when we bring a man she will say, ‘I don’t like his haircut.’”

Okonkwo added: “Some people, self, it’s not matchmaking that is their problem. They are not even matchable. No matter how you bring, they won’t agree.”

He also spoke about women freezing their eggs, noting the financial commitment involved in maintaining the procedure.

“Do you know how much freezing egg costs? And they say you pay to sustain it.”

“These are the things nobody will talk about in church, but they will att@ck me for addressing the issue on ground,” he added.

His comments have since triggered reactions online, with some users questioning the idea that single women should compromise their standards because of their age.
