Abia State coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Yunusa Tanimu says the one year mandatory national service of the NYSC prepares the members for future leadership.
Tanimu stated this yesterday during ceremonial handing over of NYSC certificates to members of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 11 who served in the state in Umuahia, the capital.
He said, “That leadership starts now. If you don’t consider yourself as a leader already, it will mean you are not sharing in the ideas of the scheme.
”The scheme has deliberate steps to shape you up for the roles you are expected to undertake in various spheres of national development either as bureaucrats, entrepreneurs, or political appointees.
”This is what we have prepared you for in the last one year and we expect you to go out there and unleash those great potentials in you. When you go out there, try to excel in every endeavor you choose.
”Whether you choose the entrepreneurial world, whether you are one cut out for white-collar engagement, whether you want to toe the path of political leadership.
”This is like a parting gift for you. So you go out there with that resolve you already have, even have it further strengthened, and then excelling in whatever you choose to do.”
”Today is a day of celebration, a day of accomplishment, a day of attainment of milestone, a critical point in a life’s journey, the day the entire nation rises in appreciation of you.’
He described them as young men and women of our nation, “who have answered the clarion call and for the past one year or thereabouts committed yourselves to the service of our nation”.
He said their contributions in the areas of education, healthcare, agriculture, technology and other spheres of development endeared them to the places they served and Nigerians at large.
”For that, we say a big thank you. Yours is a service that has taken our nation an inch or even inches closer closer to our dream point in terms of development,” Tanimu further said.
While urging them to be deliberate in their efforts to keep the country together and make it progress, he reminded them of its avalanche of potentials and opportunities.
