Court Adjourns Alleged ₦120m Business Dispute Involving Medical Director of Mendel Hospital, Aba to January 2027

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has reportedly adjourned proceedings in a dispute involving an alleged ₦120 million business transaction linked to Dr. John Nnamdi Okeakpu, Medical Director of Mendel Hospital, Aba, to January 28, 2027.

According to information provided by a group known as Concerned Nigerians, which filed a petition over the matter, the case came up on October 14, 2026, when Dr. Okeakpu was said not to have appeared in court.

The petitioners said the court adjourned the matter to January 28, 2027, and directed that he appear on the next date. However, this publication has not independently verified the court proceedings or sighted a certified true copy of the relevant court order.

The petition, addressed to several law enforcement, regulatory and professional bodies, concerns a reported business relationship between Dr. Okeakpu and Dr. John Nnamdi Achonam, a Nigerian medical practitioner based in the United States.

According to the petitioners, approximately ₦120 million was involved in a commercial arrangement concerning the procurement of two containers of matches and medical equipment.

They further alleged that more than ₦30 million was provided for the purchase of landed property in Enugu State, which they claim was neither acquired nor refunded.

The allegations remain unproven, and no finding of liability against Dr. Okeakpu has been independently established for this report.

The petition by Concerned Nigerians was reportedly addressed to the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Police Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Ikoyi, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

The petitioners are seeking an independent and impartial investigation into the disputed transactions. They have also called for due process and a fair hearing for all parties.

Sources familiar with the complaint reportedly said aspects of the matter were also being reviewed by the Police Special Fraud Unit in Ikoyi. This publication has not independently confirmed the status of any such investigation.

In the interest of balanced reporting, efforts were reportedly made by the Nigerian Online Media Alliance (NOMA) to obtain Dr. Okeakpu’s response to the allegations, the disputed transactions and the reported court proceedings.

According to the information supplied by NOMA, calls and messages seeking his comments had not received a response as of the time of filing this report.

Dr. Okeakpu’s position on the allegations was therefore not available for inclusion in this report. He remains entitled to respond, and any substantive response or relevant documentary evidence provided subsequently will be considered for publication.

The petitioners have urged the relevant authorities to examine the complaint transparently and impartially, while ensuring that all parties are treated in accordance with the law.

The reported adjournment places the next stated court date at January 28, 2027. The precise nature of the proceedings and any directions made by the court should be confirmed through the relevant court records.
