- Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said he will not spend his holidays outside Nigeria if elected president in 2027.
- He said his proposed holiday visits would include Zamfara, Borno, Kwara, Ebonyi, Edo and Ekiti states as part of his plan to interact with citizens and understand their challenges.
eter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has said he will spend his holidays across Nigeria rather than travel abroad if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Obi made the statement in his Independence Day address in Abuja on Thursday, October 1, saying the proposed visits would enable him to interact directly with Nigerians and gain a better understanding of the challenges facing different communities.
He said his holiday destinations would include Zamfara, Borno, Kwara, Ebonyi, Edo and Ekiti states, among others.
“As I have always done, I will lead by example. In four years as President of this great nation, I will not spend my holidays outside Nigeria. My holidays will be spent in Zamfara State; Borno State; Kwara State; Ebonyi State; Edo State; Ekiti State and other Nigerian States.
“I want to continue to see Nigeria. I want to know Nigeria. I want to spend time with Nigerians, listen to them, understand their challenges and celebrate their resilience.”
Obi said the approach formed part of his broader position that governance should be measurable and accountable, with emphasis on citizens’ welfare, productivity and security.
He had previously criticised the practice of Nigerian presidents spending their holidays abroad, arguing that the president should use such periods to visit communities across the country.
