Lagos Blue Line to add FESTAC, Alakija, Trade Fair stations by February 2027

Lagos commuters along the FESTAC, Alakija and Trade Fair are expected to gain access to rail services by the end of February 2027, as the state prepares to open three new Blue Line stations.
Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, announced the planned opening at the 2026 Media Parley organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation in Lagos.
The expansion will raise the number of operational stations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line from five to eight, extending rail access to more residents.
Akinajo said the stations were planned to open in the first quarter of 2027, bringing rail services closer to commuters along the FESTAC–Alakija–Trade Fair corridor.
Three stations to extend existing rail network
The Blue Line currently serves five stations: Marina, National Theatre, Iganmu, Alaba and Mile 2.
The addition of FESTAC, Alakija and Trade Fair will extend the line beyond its existing five stations, giving more commuters access to rail transport.
The planned expansion is expected to provide an alternative to road travel and improve access to mass transit for residents along the new corridor.

Bus corridors and interchange hubs nearing completion
Akinajo also disclosed that four Quality Bus Corridors (QBCs) were nearing completion, alongside considerable progress on construction work at the Marina and Mile 2 Interchange Hubs.
The bus corridors and interchange hubs are part of the state’s plans to improve connections between different forms of public transport.
