Former Edo governor Adams Oshiomhole wants young Nigerians to think about learning a trade.

He spoke during a Senate debate on Tuesday, October 20, and a clip of his speech is now trending online.

He said a university degree should not be the goal for everyone.

Every country wants its people to have good basic education, he said, so they can read, understand information and learn practical skills.

From there, people can go into trades like bricklaying or electrical work.

He said construction firms in Abuja are looking for electricians and cannot find any.

He also said ambassadors have told him they are struggling to find chefs.

He made it clear that he is not against university education.

He pointed out that many people who run public offices do not have degrees in public administration.

He also asked the Senate to look closely at the education bill before passing it, so that money meant for schools is not misused.
