The UK government has denied entry to anti-Islamic American activist Valentina Gomez since her visit would be against the public interest.
This denial of her visit has been done by the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, after deciding that having her in the country would cause harm.
Valentina Gomez is a 26-year-old woman who was born in Columbia and has tried her luck at becoming a politician in Missouri and Texas on an anti-Islamic platform.
She has gotten much negative press from comments that she has made on her accounts regarding the Muslims and the Quran. Most notably, she even burnt a copy of the Quran in her video campaign advertisement.
Recently, she announced that she would be visiting the United Kingdom to attend an event organized by Tommy Robinson under the name “Unite the Kingdom” on 16th May.
In earlier visits to the UK in September, she had made comments that have offended many people there which led to this denial by the Home Office, she claimed that her visa application was successful.
The Muslim Council of Britain had raised concerns about her planned visit, writing to the Home Office to warn that allowing Gomez to speak publicly in the UK would risk legitimising hate speech and send the wrong message about enforcement standards.
Following the ban, the organisation welcomed the move, describing it as an important step in addressing the spread of harmful rhetoric.
The Home Office has, in the past, refused entry to individuals whose presence is considered potentially inflammatory or divisive. Recently, it also blocked Kanye West from entering the UK over concerns linked to previous antisemitic comments.
Officials say such decisions are part of broader efforts to maintain public safety and social cohesion.
