Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested two suspects, Anas Yarima, 35-year-old, of Shingen Abba, and Abubakar Adam, 53-year-old, of Kandahar area of Bauchi, over the alleged theft of a Toyota Hummer bus.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday, saying the suspects were arrested along Gombe Road, Bauchi, following a swift response to credible intelligence by detectives of the command.
According to him, the stolen bus was recovered during the operation.
He said the complainant, Abubakar, 60-year-old of Gallaga area, Bauchi, had reported the incident at ‘A’ Division, Township, on Sunday.
He explained that the vehicle, with registration number 14B95 BA and chassis number TRH20050135544, was stolen after being parked at the Yankari Express Motor Park while the owner attended prayers at the park’s mosque.
“During the operation, the stolen Toyota Hummer bus was recovered in the suspects’ possession.
The suspects confessed to the crime and admitted using a personal key to steal the vehicle,” the statement added.
Nafiu said investigations are ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
He noted that the recovery marks the second successful recovery of stolen vehicles by the Command within one week through intelligence-led policing.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team, as well as members of the public, for providing timely information that led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the vehicle.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to remain vigilant at homes, places of worship, and business premises, while promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
