Presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has announced that he will not attend the party’s presidential election results announcement.
He cited concerns over alleged widespread irregularities in the exercise.
Hayatudeen made his position known in a post on his official X account on Tuesday, where he said reports of vote manipulation had emerged from different parts of the country.
“I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today,” he said.
He explained that his decision was based on reports he received and some incidents he personally observed during the conduct of the primary election.
“I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed,” he stated.
The aspirant added that he would be seeking advice on his next political steps following the development.
“I will, therefore, be taking advice on my next steps,” he added.
The ADC presidential primary election was held across the country on Monday, with voting taking place in 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas (LGAs).
The exercise produced three major contenders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and former banker, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
The party proceeded with the primary after efforts to reach a consensus candidate failed.
Hayatu-Deen, a former Managing Director of the defunct FSB International Bank, had earlier contested for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket in 2022 but stepped down shortly before the primary election.
