Nigerian Pharmacy Research Earns Global Spotlight As FIP Accepts Two CPACPI Studies For Canada Congress

Nigeria’s pharmaceutical research community has gained fresh international recognition as the Community Pharmacists Assessment and Career Progression Institute (CPACPI) secured acceptance of two major research abstracts for presentation at the 84th International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Montreal, Canada.
The global congress, scheduled for August 30 to September 2, 2026, is regarded as one of the world’s largest gatherings of pharmacy professionals, bringing together experts in pharmaceutical science, healthcare delivery, education, innovation and policy development.
The breakthrough marks another milestone for Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector and reinforces the growing global relevance of Nigerian community pharmacy practice.
The development follows the recognition recorded at the previous FIP Congress in Denmark, where the standardized CPACPI framework introduced by the National Chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), Pharm. Ambrose Igwekamma Ezeh, was adopted by the FIP Community Pharmacy Section.
Industry stakeholders described the latest achievement as a major boost for Nigeria’s pharmacy profession, noting that it strengthens the international visibility of evidence-based reforms, professional development initiatives and structured career progression systems within community pharmacy practice.
The accepted abstracts will be presented by the Chairman of the CPACPI Board, Dr. Iyeseun Asieba, and the National Secretary of ACPN, Pharm. Omokhafe Mary Ashore, under the supervision of the Research and Publications Subcommittee led by Prof. Chukwuemeka Ubaka.
Speaking on the development, Dr. Asieba said the recognition validates the resilience, innovation and research capacity of Nigerian pharmacists on the global stage.
One of the accepted studies, titled “The Implementation Gap: Perceived Barriers and External Threats to Community Pharmacists’ Participation in a Career Advancement Scheme in Nigeria,” examines the institutional, regulatory and systemic challenges limiting the participation of community pharmacists in structured career development programmes.
Dr. Asieba described the acceptance as rewarding, noting that the challenges and solutions emerging from Nigerian pharmacy practice possess global relevance.
The second accepted paper, titled “Beyond the Counter: Profiling the Early Adopters of a Career Progression Framework among Nigerian Community Pharmacists,” will be presented by Pharm. Ashore.
The study explores the motivations, behavioural patterns and professional realities of pharmacists who embraced the CPACPI framework during its early implementation phase, while providing insights into the evolving structure of community pharmacy practice in Nigeria.
Pharm. Ashore said the recognition demonstrates how locally generated healthcare research can influence global policy conversations and contribute meaningfully to healthcare advancement.
Reacting to the development, ACPN National Chairman, Pharm. Ambrose Ezeh, expressed satisfaction over the increasing global visibility of Nigerian pharmaceutical practice.
He said the CPACPI framework aligns with emerging global healthcare transformation goals focused on strengthening professional competencies, improving career pathways and building sustainable patient-centred healthcare systems.
According to him, continuous competency development and structured career progression for pharmacists remain essential to improving pharmaceutical care services and strengthening primary healthcare delivery.
Stakeholders within the profession believe the international recognition further highlights Nigeria’s growing contribution to pharmaceutical innovation, workforce development, research excellence and evidence-based healthcare reforms within the global pharmacy community.
