The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has pledged its commitment to improving the welfare of women in Osun State if supported in the forthcoming general elections.
The state chairman of the party, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, gave the assurance during the party’s primary elections held at its secretariat in Osogbo, where candidates for the National and State Assemblies across federal and state constituencies were unveiled.
Odeyemi said the party believes strongly in the ability of women to shape the political landscape of the country, hence the 50% candidature opportunity given to them.
According to him, the party is fully prepared for the general elections as Nigerians are tired of promises from failed parties that have ruled in the past.
He, however, cautioned the candidates against campaigns of calumny or defamation. He urged them to focus on issue-based campaigns and make only promises they can easily fulfil if elected.
Speaking at the event, the Osun West Senatorial Candidate of NNPP, Hon. Makinde Folasayo, urged Osun women to stop playing politics from the backdoor.

According to Makinde, “Men make use of us more during campaigns. They believe in our ability and capacity to garner votes for them, but when they get to power, they neglect us.
“That is why I want to give kudos to the leadership of my party in the state for giving many of us an enabling environment to showcase what we have.
“Women are nation builders. We have empathy and we know where the shoe pinches. We can transform the whole nation for the better if given the opportunity.
“I want to appeal to our people in Osun, most especially women in Osun West Senatorial District, to give me this great chance and I promise I won’t let them down.”
The primary elections, which were witnessed by representatives of INEC from Abuja and Osun State, affirmed the names of the party’s candidates. They all promised to canvass for votes in every nook and cranny of Osun State.
