Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry deleted a joint statement condemning the opening of a Somaliland embassy in occupied Jerusalem, just hours after publishing it.
The statement was removed from the ministry’s accounts on all platforms, including X and its official website.
Earlier, several Arab and Muslim countries strongly condemned Somaliland’s decision to open an embassy in occupied Jerusalem, describing it as a clear violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
The statement, issued by the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia, Djibouti, Somalia, Palestine, Oman, Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon and Mauritania, said the move represented “a direct infringement on the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem.”
The signatory countries stressed their complete rejection of any measures or steps aimed at granting legitimacy to entities or diplomatic missions in occupied Jerusalem.
They also reaffirmed that East Jerusalem is occupied Palestinian territory under the 1967 borders, in line with relevant United Nations resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 478.
