Nigerian singer Brymo, born Olawale Olofooro, has said it is time for Nigeria to seriously consider an Igbo presidency, urging national reconciliation and a move beyond past political tensions.
The controversial artiste, who faced criticism during the 2023 election period over comments seen as anti-Igbo, stated that Nigerians should “let go of the past” and work towards unity as a country.
However, he cautioned that insecurity in the South-East could influence the chances of an Igbo presidency. According to him, insecurity has in some cases been “weaponised” by different groups across the country for political advantage.
Brymo also commended President Bola Tinubu, claiming that he played a role in preventing the South-West security initiative, Amotekun, from developing into a separatist movement.
Speaking during a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, he said:
“I think it is high time for Igbo presidency. It is time for Nigeria to start considering Igbo presidency. Let’s let go of the past and reconcile our differences and unite as a nation.”
“But how will we get there if the South-east is also slowly descending into chaos? Anytime any group in Nigeria wants presidency, they will start militancy. That is what is going on. If you want presidency, start kidnapping and insecurity.
“One of the reasons I like President Bola Tinubu is because he stopped Amotekun from taking off. He didn’t support it. Imagine if Yorubas have Amotekun active, South-eastern insecurity active, Boko Haram active, and South-south militants active, do we still have a country?”
