The Kogi State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement exercise targeting vehicles with covered, obscured, defaced, unauthorised or missing registration number plates.
The exercise, which began on Monday, is aimed at improving public safety and preventing the use of unidentifiable vehicles for criminal activities, according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oyiza Afusat.
Afusat said the operation follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police and is part of broader efforts to strengthen security and enhance vehicle identification across the state.
She stated that the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Motor Traffic Police personnel to ensure full compliance within their jurisdictions.According to the statement, vehicles found violating the regulations will be impounded and subjected to investigation in line with existing laws.
The command advised motorists, transport operators and fleet owners to ensure that their vehicles display valid and clearly visible registration number plates at all times. Vehicle owners were also urged to keep all relevant documents updated and readily available for inspection when required.
Afusat described the exercise as a proactive security measure designed to improve crime prevention and support law enforcement operations throughout the state.The police spokesperson also called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency channels.
