Operation FANSAN YAMMA marks NADCEL with prayers, restates commitment to national security

The Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has held special Jumma’at and Interdenominational Church services in Gusau, Zamfara State, to commemorate the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL).
According to the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the religious activities brought together officers, soldiers, veterans, members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA) and other invited guests to celebrate the Nigerian Army’s 163 years of service to the nation.
Danja said the Theatre Commander, Major General WB Idris, delivered the goodwill message of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, during the special Jumma’at prayer.
In the message, the COAS described the anniversary as an opportunity to thank God for His faithfulness, honour the sacrifices of fallen heroes and renew the Army’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and citizens.
He commended officers and soldiers serving across different theatres of operation for their courage, professionalism and dedication.
The Army Chief also urged personnel to remain committed to the constitutional responsibilities and core values of the Nigerian Army, while acknowledging the Federal Government’s support in enhancing operational effectiveness and troop welfare.
According to Danja, the COAS reaffirmed the Army’s resolve to sustain operations against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other security threats confronting the country.
At the Interdenominational Church Service, the Theatre Commander was represented by the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General OA Obochi, who conveyed the Chief of Army Staff’s message to Christian worshippers.
The message highlighted the Army’s “Soldier First” initiative, which focuses on improving accommodation, healthcare, education, training opportunities and family support for personnel, while also paying tribute to fallen heroes, wounded soldiers, veterans and military families.
Danja said the religious services formed part of nationwide activities marking NADCEL 2026 and reflected the Nigerian Army’s continued commitment to professionalism, national unity and effective service delivery.
