The Imole Campaign Council has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for identifying 385 flashpoints and over 200 difficult terrains ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun governorship election, but says the commission must now match preparation with transparency.
The Chairman, Civil Society Matters of the Council, Mr Funmiso Babarinde, in a statement on Monday, a copy obtained by NAIJAONPOINT, said INEC’s early risk assessment shows commitment to a peaceful and credible poll.
Babarinde, however, said that identifying risks must be followed by open engagement with stakeholders.
“INEC should publicly identify, where security considerations permit, the local government areas and communities designated as flashpoints and difficult terrains,” Babarinde noted.
According to him, such disclosure will help political parties, security agencies, observers, civil society groups and residents to strengthen voter education, improve logistics, and support conflict prevention before election day.

Babarinde also urged INEC to immediately announce the commencement and deadline for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, to prevent disenfranchisement.
He further called on the commission to release the updated voter registration data and certified voters’ register to all participating parties, in line with the Electoral Act.
“This will enable parties to verify the register, identify possible irregularities, facilitate corrections, and build more confidence in the process,” Babarinde said.
“The credibility of the forthcoming election will not be determined solely by the absence of violence, but by the transparency, inclusiveness and fairness of every stage of the process. As the umpire, INEC must ensure that no eligible voter is left behind and that all parties have equal access to relevant information,” he added.
