The Oyo State Police Command has recorded another significant operational success in its sustained campaign against criminality and its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the State.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command recovered a hijacked DAF tanker truck that had been abandoned in the Ile-Igbon area of Oyo State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle had remained unattended for several days.
Intelligence further suggests that the criminal elements who had unlawfully taken possession of the truck abandoned it upon realising that security operatives were actively tracking their movement.
Unable to retain possession of the vehicle in the face of heightened police pressure and intelligence-led operations, the suspects fled the area in an apparent attempt to evade arrest, leaving the truck behind.
The recovered vehicle was promptly secured and taken into police custody pending the conclusion of necessary investigative procedures.
Subsequent inquiries established that the tanker truck had earlier been hijacked by armed criminals along the Ijebu-Ode axis of Ogun State.
The driver, who later identified the vehicle, confirmed that it had been forcefully taken from him during the incident. Further investigations led to contact with the owner of the vehicle, who corroborated the account and confirmed that the matter had previously been reported to the appropriate police authorities in Ogun State.
The Oyo State Police Command is currently working in close collaboration with the Ogun State Police Command to facilitate the necessary administrative procedures for the release of the recovered vehicle to its rightful owner, while ongoing efforts are being intensified to identify, locate and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbemiga, reassures residents that the Command remains resolute in its determination to rid the State of criminal elements through intelligence-driven policing, strategic deployment of operational assets, and robust inter-agency collaboration.
He further urges members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by providing timely and actionable information capable of aiding crime prevention and detection.
