LAGOS – Chinedu Chuka Achukwu, an Artificial Intelligence expert, has taken a studied look at the xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa, saying that the protection of citizens should always be a priority for the Federal Government, regardless of where they reside.
Speaking exclusively with Sunday Independent in Lagos, Achukwu, the Chief Executive Officer of Uppist, one emerging voice in Artificial Intelligence and business innovation in Nigeria, stated that the bad treatment of Nigerians in South Africa was uncalled for and unacceptable.
While lamenting the reported killing and attacks of Nigerians by South Africa, Achukwu urged the Federal Government to continue to engage with its South African counterpart on how to maintain cordial relations between citizens of both nations.
Achukwu said: “I believe the Nigerian government should continue engaging the South African government through diplomatic channels, while seeking clear accountability regarding incidents affecting Nigerians and other foreign nationals.
“This is not necessarily a situation that calls for impulsive or retaliatory actions. International relations require careful handling, and diplomacy
remains an important tool for maintaining stability and cooperation
between nations.
“However, diplomacy should not be mistaken for passivity. Where legitimate concerns exist, there should be firm engagement, transparent communication, and a clear commitment to finding solutions that enhance safety, accountability, and mutual respect.
“Ultimately, both countries have a shared responsibility to strengthen their relationship, while ensuring the protection and dignity of all people within their borders.”
