Ifemeludike, AAC’s Candidate For Anambra Central Senatorial Seat, Withdraws From

LAGOS – Chioma Grace Ifemeludike, the Deputy National Chairman, South East of the African Action Congress (AAC), has withdrawn from the Senatorial race.

Ifemeludike, the AAC’s for­mer governorship candidate and currently the party’s state chairman, until a few days ago, was its candidate for the Anam­bra Central Senatorial District.

In a letter addressed to the AAC’s Acting National Chair­man, a copy which was made available to Sunday Indepen­dent, Ifemeludike indicated that she was withdrawing from the senate race.

In the letter, titled ‘Re: With­drawal Of Interest To Contest For Anambra Central Senatori­al District’, she stated that her decision was made after careful reflection and in accordance with her personal convictions, principles, and commitment to justice, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable mem­bers of society.

Ifemeludike’s letter reads: “I hereby formally notify the National Working Committee (NWC) and the leadership of the African Action Congress (AAC) of my decision to withdraw my interest and aspiration to contest for the office of Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District under the platform of our great party in the 2027 general elections.

“This decision has been taken after careful reflection and in ac­cordance with my personal con­victions, principles, and commit­ment to justice, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable members of society.

“Furthermore, recent events have reinforced my decision. In my view, the role played by Do­ris Ogala Umezurike in matters relating to the case of Baby Tes­timony and his physically chal­lenged mother has been deeply concerning.

“I believe that the circum­stances surrounding the matter contributed to prolonged distress, public embarrassment, and con­tinued suffering for the child’s mother, while raising serious questions about the pursuit of justice for the child.

“These concerns have signifi­cantly influenced my decision to step away from my senatorial aspiration and focus on advocat­ing for accountability, justice, and the protection of vulnerable members of society.
