The African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Representatives Candidate for Ibadan South East/ North East Federal Constituency, Dr Kazeem Adesina Abidikugu, popularly known as KSO, has eulogised the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, a year after he joined his ancestors.
Oba Olakulehin, who died merely two days after marking his 90th birthday, was the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The monarch died on July 7, 2025, one year after he officially received his staff of office from Governor Seyi Makinde on July 12, 2024.
Born into the Okugbaja family in Ita Baale, Olakulehin came from the military line of succession and assumed the revered traditional role following the death of Oba Olalekan Balogun, who died at the age of 81 after a two-year reign.
In a statement issued to mark the one-year remembrance of the Late Olubadan, Oba Olakulehin, Abidikugu, who was installed as the Agba-Akin Bobajiro of Ibadanland, and his wife, Chief (Mrs) Victoria Olasupo Abidikugu, as Yeye Agba-Akin Bobajiro of Ibadanland by the late Monarch, described him as a forthright leader and one whose tenure marked progress and developments in Ibadanland.
Abidikugu, who is a renowned philanthropist and United Kingdom-based Psychiatric Consultant, said he remembered with joy that the late monarch made him a chieftaincy holder in Ibadanland.
He prays to the Almighty God to continue to grant the foremost traditional ruler continuous peace in the world beyond.
Abidikugu said that though the tenure of Oba Olakulehin was short, it was historic, full of peace and tranquillity, saying the Ibadan Indigenes, both at home and in the Diaspora, cannot forget his achievements during his short but eventful reign.
He rejoices with Oba Olakulehin’s family, urging them not to depart from his golden steps, which he said endeared him to all and sundry while alive.
Abidikugu said Oba Olakulehin would not be forgotten, as according to him, all his good deeds are well recognised even after his death.
