The secretary of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Jafaru Gwagwa, has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. He also expressed support for the leadership of the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, AMAC chairman Dr Christopher Maikalangu, Senator Philip Aduda and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During an interview in Abuja, Gwagwa commended President Tinubu, Wike and Maikalangu for their commitment to development and inclusive governance.
He attributed projects executed by the Maikalangu administration to visionary leadership, collaboration with the federal government and stakeholders’ support.
He said AMAC’s diverse population requires an inclusive, development-oriented leadership to address the needs of residents from across the country.
“AMAC is home to people from all parts of Nigeria and beyond. It requires a leader who can carry everyone along, formulate people-oriented policies and ensure sustainable development. Dr Christopher Maikalangu has demonstrated these qualities through his administration,” Gwagwa said.
The council secretary also expressed confidence in the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, reaffirming his support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid and the party’s candidates in the FCT.
He said the council’s open-door policy had enabled residents to contribute ideas that shaped government policies and development programmes, adding that the administration had undertaken road construction projects in communities including Orozo, Karimu and Burum since assuming office in June 2022.
Gwagwa further said the council had promoted inclusiveness by providing opportunities to qualified Nigerians irrespective of their states of origin.
He also commended the FCT Minister for ongoing infrastructure projects across the territory and urged residents to continue supporting the administration.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the AMAC Secretary, Hon. Haruna Bako, described the Maikalangu administration as one of the most development-driven local government administrations in the FCT.
Bako said the chairman’s emphasis on infrastructure development had earned him the reputation of “Mr Projects.”
He also commended the administration for promoting national unity through appointments across ethnic and regional lines, noting that he was appointed despite being from Plateau State.
Bako called on political appointees and aides to complement government efforts by attracting development projects to their communities, saying he had facilitated the construction of a road in his community.
