- Delta Technical Team Commends Progress On Asaba Waterfront, Niger City Projects

The Delta State Technical Team supervising the Asaba Waterfront City and Niger City projects has expressed satisfaction with the pace of work at the two flagship developments, while urging contractors to accelerate key aspects of the projects to ensure timely delivery.
The team made the assessment during an inspection tour of the project sites led by the Special Project Director, Hon. Victor Ebonka, who evaluated ongoing construction, land reclamation and infrastructure works.
Speaking after inspecting the reclamation sites, Ebonka said the technical team was impressed by the level of commitment demonstrated by the developers handling both projects.
He, however, urged the North China companies executing portions of the developments to intensify efforts, particularly in land reclamation and the provision of critical infrastructure, to ensure the projects are completed within the agreed timeline.
Ebonka commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his unwavering commitment to the successful implementation of the projects, noting that the state government had fulfilled its obligations under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
According to him, the government expedited the construction of the six-lane access road leading to the project sites, created an enabling environment for the developers and ensured full compensation was paid to all affected communities with interests in the project land.
He said the state had substantially met its responsibilities under the MoU, a development he noted had contributed significantly to the progress recorded so far.
The governor has demonstrated strong commitment to the success of these projects by ensuring that the state’s obligations were fulfilled promptly. This has provided the developers with the confidence and environment needed to move the projects forward,” Ebonka said.
Also speaking during the inspection, the Managing Director of Niger City Development Company Limited, Mr. Ikechukwu Omeze, assured the delegation that work had been intensified to meet the project’s delivery schedule.
He said the company remained committed to maintaining high-quality standards while ensuring timely completion of the development.
Omeze disclosed that the company had acquired and deployed one of the fastest dredging machines, alongside other state-of-the-art equipment, to accelerate land reclamation activities.
Representatives of the Asaba Waterfront City Company, Mr. Tony Obiakor and Mr. Jasen, also said construction activities had been scaled up with the deployment of additional manpower and equipment.
They revealed that modern dredging equipment had been introduced to boost reclamation efforts, noting that dredging operations now constitute a significant component of ongoing activities at the site.
The developers appealed for sustained collaboration and support from the Delta State Government, expressing confidence that the partnership would ensure the successful completion of the landmark projects.
The Asaba Waterfront City and Niger City projects are among the Delta State Government’s flagship urban renewal initiatives aimed at transforming Asaba into a modern commercial, residential and investment hub, while creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic growth.
